(Finished LOOKER by Laura Sims last night and it was extremely sad and painful and good. I don't think I'll ever read it again but I will wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who needs to feel that specific sort of desperation.⁣ ⁣

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING is that I got my hands on the new Oyeyemi today and genuinely yelped when I saw it on the shelf. Have you read her? What are you waiting for? Permission? You have it. I wish I could wipe my brain of all memories of her work and begin again with The Icarus Girl. Have gifted no fewer than six copies of Boy Snow Bird. Will not rest until you have all read her work. Ur welcome.)
  • Last night and into today I've been reading this excellent novel called AMERICAN SPY which everyone should pick up especially if you are Black and perhaps American and maybe you grew up in a house full of Pan African ideas.
My last read was ADÈLE by Leïla Slimani which I wanted to be very different than it was but would still highly recommend to the right person.
Before that I finished LOVING SABOTAGE by Amélie Nothomb which was a HARD 5 OUT OF 5 STARS.
Started the week with AN ABSOLUTELY REMARKABLE THING by Hank Green which was entertaining tbh and I was willing to overlook the 🙄 bits.
Tonight after I sadly finish AMERICAN SPY I'll start LOOKER by Laura Sims.
All in all it was an excellent week for books and reading, and I look forward to this next week where I will continue to read good books.

Have decided to turn all of my Instagram captions into book lists btw.

  • extreme scorpio energy; sam and jen from the archives. I am missing the ludicrously lush alleyways of west philadelphia with a vengeance today.
  • 3/3 We wanted more. We knocked the butt ends of our forks against the table, tapped our spoons against our empty bowls; we were hungry. We wanted more volume, more riots. We turned up the knob on the TV until our ears ached with the shouts of angry men. We wanted more music on the radio; we wanted beats; we wanted rock. We wanted muscles on our skinny arms. We had bird bones, hollow and light, and we wanted more density, more weight. We were six snatching hands, six stomping feet; we were brothers, boys, three little kings locked in a feud for more. one of my favorite passages from the book. @wetheanimalsfilm is out on @netflix
  • 🗣 @wetheanimalsfilm is out on @netflix. a wild wild full of life film born from a stunning book. here is my favorite moment between ma and her baby.
