Looking for the purr-fect way to honor a feline companion in your life? These dolls by Rachel Brown ( @moonwhiskersdolls) are handmade to look like people’s cats wearing fancy costumes. Each custom doll takes at least 100 hours of work, including sculpting, painting and sewing. Rachel’s first cat doll was based on someone close to her own heart, Hunter, her family pet of 19 years. “When he passed away four years ago, he was begging to be immortalized through art,” she says.
After working as a junior model maker for the Wes Anderson film, “Isle of Dogs,” Rachel gained the confidence to pursue her own creations. In cats, Rachel found some wonderful muses. “Whether obnoxiously aloof or desperate for attention, cats always have such strong, individual personalities,” she says. “When I ask a client what they imagine their cat would wear based on their personality, they always have an answer.”
Today on our story, see why these dolls are the cat’s meow.
