Singaporean photographer Nguan ( @_nguan_) describes his style as magical documentary. “Although I’d say that I employ documentary methods, it’s essential to me that a kind of metamorphosis occurs between a real thing or place and its existence as a photograph,” explains Nguan. “I want to present a world that appears slightly transformed.”
Nguan went to film school, and started taking photos as a way of making notes for screenplays he intended to write. The scripts never happened — but he recognized the power of photography, and found a career path along the way. “Each of my pictures is the middle of a story where the befores and afters are left entirely to the viewer,” he says.
